Ahmed Musa will join up with West Bromwich Albion on Monday as Sam Allardyce considers a surprise return to the Premier League for the former Leicester forward.

Musa is set to train with the Albion squad on Monday and is expected to stay with the club this week while Allardyce ponders offering him a short-term contract.

Signed for £16 million by Leicester in 2016 after the club lifted the title, Musa disappointed over a two-year spell at the King Power Stadium before moving to Saudi Arabia.

Musa is now a free agent after leaving Al Nassr and Allardyce will run the rule over the 28 year-old this week.

Allardyce is pushing to sign Leicester’s defensive midfielder Hamza Choudhury on loan this week, despite competition from other clubs, and is also assessing a number of forwards both in England and abroad.

Christian Benteke, the Crystal Palace forward, is an option but a deal will be difficult due to his huge wages. Palace are keen to offload either Benteke or send Michy Batshuayi back to Chelsea after signing Jean-Philippe Mateta last week.

West Brom remain in the relegation zone and return to league action on Tuesday night with a home game against Manchester City. They then face Fulham in a potentially pivotal showdown this weekend.

Allardyce said: “We are considering all options – loans particularly, our funds are not big enough for permanent signings. It’s more loans which makes it more difficult.

“And you have got to look at does the player want to come and have a fight at this level?

“Does he want to come and try himself in the Premier League with a team that is struggling?

“Does he want to put himself in the shop window, does he want to help us get out of trouble?

"We will try our best to find that player. It’s not easy.

"And if there is anything in and around the Premier League - we have one domestic loan left - we will look at that as well to help improve us."
