Aid pouring in after deadly Perryton tornado. Here's how to help and where to get help

A number of organizations and individuals have stepped up to offer aid to the Perryton community after a tornado outbreak killed three and injured about 100 people late Thursday afternoon.

From Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pledging state resources Thursday evening to assist in clean-up and recovery, to the United Family of Supermarkets announcing its plans to provide water and other supplies, badly needed aid is pouring in to the Panhandle community.

For its part, United announced its efforts to restore service to its Perryton store and distribute supplies.

"As relief efforts continue in Perryton, Texas, following the devastating tornado on Thursday evening, The United Family has deployed resources to assist the community through this difficult time," reads a statement from the United Family on Friday. "As of 4 p.m., the United Supermarkets located at 2806 Main Street in Perryton has regained power and is now serving guests with limited selections in some departments. On Saturday and Sunday, team members with United Supermarkets will be serving free food to first responders and impacted community members from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot. Shipments will continue arriving daily from the distribution center in Lubbock. The United Family continues to pray for all those who have been impacted by this natural disaster and remains committed to helping the community recover.”

Here's a list of organizations you can support:

  • Amarillo Area Foundation’s Panhandle Disaster Fund will be providing short and long term assistance to the community.

  • Churches of Christ Disaster Relief, Inc. accepts monetary donations to provide victims of major disasters with food, hygiene items, clothing, and cleaning supplies.

  • City of Hooker announced on Facebook that it will accept donations for those impacted. A collection site inside city hall will accept bottled water, Gatorade, flashlights, batteries and toiletries among other necessities.

  • Coffee Memorial Blood Center is seeking blood donations in Amarillo and Oklahoma City. Mobile drives in other areas can be found here. Blood Emergency Readiness Corps was activated to ensure that they continue to have the supply needed to help area patients.

  • FirstBank Southwest is accepting monetary donations for disaster victims. Donations can be made in person or via phone call at any branch in Amarillo, Booker, Hereford, Pampa and Perryton.

  • Global Empowerment Mission, a non-profit aid organization, will be on the ground in Perryton beginning Friday to assess damage and provide aid in disaster response, according to a news release from the organization.

  • Mission Amarillo is seeking donations of plywood, screws, tarps, blankets, water and toiletries. The organization will also accept monetary donations by visiting www.missionamarillo.com/donate with "Perryton" in the tribute name field.

  • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Amarillo is seeking donations for a family that consists of three young children -- ages 1, 3 and 5 -- a mother and a grandmother. The organization is accepting clothing donations and monetary donations by visiting www.rmhcofamarillo.org with "Perryton Relief" in the notes box.

  • The Southern Baptists Texas Convention has a mobile kitchen unit to provide hot meals and will assist with cleanup crews and chainsaw teams as needed.

  • T-Mobile is providing free WiFi, device charging stations, pre-lit devices, chargers and charging supplies.

  • United Supermarkets is working with state emergency responders to provide water and resources to first-responders.

In addition, several verified GoFundMes have been set up to help those impacted by the storm. "More and more residents impacted by the devastating tornado that hit Perryton are turning to GoFundMe for help rebuilding," a representative says in an update. "GoFundMe’s Trust & Safety team is currently monitoring the platform for fundraisers created to help those who have been affected by the tornado. The hub will continue to be updated as more fundraisers are verified by our Trust & Safety team." Here are a few of the platform's online fundraisers:

  • Perryton Disaster Assistance: (Organized by Physicians Surgical Hospitals) "Many homes and businesses have been obliterated and people there are suffering greatly. As we all know, we all serve or have served the citizens of this great panhandle town, and they need our help with food, water, shelter and simple supplies."

  • Jon Olmos: "Jon was in the house with both of the boys when a tornado hit the house and reduced it to what is shown above. The boys are ok, but Jon suffered extensive injuries. He will have to be in the hospital for awhile as well as off of work to recouperate."

  • The Barclay Family: Tarrah "lost her home with the tornado. She and her four children ... are safe with minor injuries but have lost nearly everything."

  • Patty and Lalo Martinez: "Thank God they are safe but currently the whole city has no electricity or water and their home damages."

  • Powers and Merrick Families: "The devastating tornados that hit Perryton, TX on June 15th, 2023 have left two families without homes. My husband and I are raising funds to help with clean up of the devastation and to help these families get back to a place of solid footing."

  • Perryton Disaster Relief: " I run the 806 Weather information page, as most of our Texas panhandle residents know our friends in the small town of Perryton Texas had a devastating tornado go through their town ... 100% of the funds will go to a disaster relief fund, whether it be the American Red Cross or any other disaster relief fund raised by the city of Perryton."

  • Home destroyed by the storm: "I am attempting to raise funds for a family friend impacted by the recent storm that came through Central Texas destroying his home."

  • Pallares-Rios Family Home: "Their home and other valuables have been severely damaged. I would like to raise as much money as possible to help them with what they need to be able to live back in their house."

  • In addition, GoFundMe has its own tornado relief fundraiser to help those affected. Funds raised will go directly to people impacted and who are seeking help through GoFundMe fundraisers, and to nonprofit organizations on the ground providing relief.
