Aiken announces intent to file for reelection as district judge

Oct. 4—Judge Keli Aiken announces her plans this week to file for reelection as 354th Judicial District Court Judge. The local district court covers both Hunt and Rains counties — hearing a wide variety of cases including felony criminal matters, family law, child protection cases and civil law.

Aiken began her first term of office on Jan. 1, 2017.

"It is a privilege to work for the citizens of Hunt and Rains Counties and I hope to continue my career in public service," Aiken said.

Aiken is Hunt County's first elected female state district judge, winning the Republican Party primary runoff over challenger Craig Black in both Hunt and Rains counties. She did not face a Democratic opponent in the general election. She replaced Judge Richard Beacom upon his retirement.

Previous to her announcing her initial run for public office, Aiken served as first assistant district attorney in Hunt County.
