Aiken County GOP, Aiken Republican Club to host mayoral candidate forums

Jul. 19—Aiken residents wanting to hear from the Republican mayoral candidates before the Aug. 8 primary election have two chances to do so.

The Aiken County Republican Party will host a forum for the three candidates at 3 p.m. Sunday at South on Whiskey, located at 3197 Whiskey Road.

The Aiken Republican Club will host a candidate forum at noon Tuesday at Newberry Hall, located at 117 Newberry St. S.W.

The three candidates running for the Republican nomination are incumbent Rick Osbon, Teddy Milner and Kathryn Wade.

Osbon has been Aiken's mayor since 2015. He did not face opposition in 2019. Osbon is the owner of Osbon's Laundry and Cleaners.

Milner is the owner and operator of It's All Good, a restaurant and catering business on Hayne Avenue. She also previously owned and operated the Stoplight Deli.

Wade is the executive director of the Life Choices Pregnancy Care Center and a member of the Aiken Housing Authority board. She previously served as a field representative for former Congressman Gresham Barrett and as chair of the Housing Authority board.

Attendance at the Republican Party forum is limited to 90 people but is free.

Attending the Republican Club forum costs $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Information about joining is available on the group's Facebook page.

The primary is scheduled for Aug. 8. Early voting will begin Monday and continue through Aug. 4.

Early voting is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Aiken County Board of Voter Registration and Elections office located in Suite 1200 of the County Government Center at 1930 University Parkway.

If needed, a runoff would be held Aug. 22.

The primary winner is unopposed in the Nov. 7 general election.
