Aiken County Historical Museum volunteer training to be held May 24
May 20—The Aiken County Historical Museum is having a volunteer training session Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Training will include an orientation session with lectures about volunteer responsibilities, preservation of the museum collection and more. A complimentary lunch will be served after the orientation for new and current museum volunteers.
Volunteers participate in tours, front desk duties, working with school groups, gardening and historical research.
"Training is basically an introduction to the museum, the history of Aiken County and how volunteers are so integral to our operation," said Lauren Virgo, executive director at the Aiken County Historical Museum.
The event will end with a discussion of the museum's new policies and procedures, a question and answer portion, and a 45-minute tour of the museum.
Volunteer work is crucial to the museum's existence. It only has three full-time staff members and one part-time staff member, but around 40 volunteers.
"Without our volunteers, we literally couldn't open our doors each day," Virgo said.
