Aiken County public schools switching to virtual learning Friday due to Tropical Storm Nicole

Nov. 10—Due to the potential weather from Tropical Storm Nicole on Friday, Aiken County Public School District and Horse Creek Academy announced that students would have an e-learning day.

An announcement from the school district states: "While weather systems are unpredictable, the most recent forecasts available indicate a strong probability of strong winds and a possibility of isolated tornadoes. ... All Aiken County public schools and offices will transition from in-person to remote school/work tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 11. (Friday) will be an e-learning day, and school lunches will not be served. "

The high schools that have playoff games will announce the plans for those games and if there are any changes due to the storm, according to the school district's release.

In a Facebook post, Horse Creek Academy also announced that Friday will be an e-learning day for students.

"Due to the potential impact of Tropical Storm Nicole, Horse Creek Academy will be canceling on-campus events (Thursday) evening and will operate as an eLearning Day (Friday). No students or staff will report to campus Friday, Nov. 11. We know this cancellation impacts several on-campus events; we will release additional information about rescheduling as soon as possible. "

As of Thursday morning, USC Aiken was planning on operating on a normal schedule, according to Mary Driscoll with University Advancement.

Aiken Technical College is monitoring Hurricane Nicole in regards to operations on Friday. As of Wednesday night, the college announced it was planning on continuing with normal operations Nov. 11.

Any changes regarding the operations or hours of the college will be posted on the Aiken Tech website and social media pages.
