Aiken County school board election will have one contested race in District 3

Aug. 20—The Aiken County Board of Education will see one contested race during the November General Election.

Three candidates have filed for the School Board District 3 seat, according to the South Carolina Election Commission.

Those who filed for District 3 were Brian Silas (incumbent), Connie Jean Rendleman and Leony Guyton.

The other four district seats up for election only had one candidate each file; those include Jim Broome for District 2, Barry Moulton (incumbent) for District 5, Dwight Smith (incumbent) for District 6 and Patrice Rhinehart-Jackson (incumbent) for District 7.

District 2 incumbent Jason Crane announced earlier this year he was not running for reelection.

The Aiken County Board of Education is made up of nine elected representatives. Each board member represents the residents living in their specific district in the county, along with other county stakeholders.

Elections for the Aiken County school board are nonpartisan, and no primaries will take place before the General Election on Nov. 8.
