Aiken County woman missing, boyfriend charged with kidnapping

Aiken County authorities are searching for a missing Jackson, South Carolina woman after she was allegedly kidnapped by her boyfriend nearly a week ago.

Jamilla Shanae Smith, 30, and Daniel Gabriel Harmon, 34, also of Jackson, were reported missing by family on Saturday at about 7 p.m., according to a news release.

At about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Harmon was arrested on the 400 block of Carpentersville Road and charged with kidnapping in relation to Smith's disappearance, according to the release. Harmon has a history of domestic violence incidents and mental health issues. Arrest warrants say the kidnapping occurred on the 400 block of Old Jackson Highway in Beech Island, South Carolina.

Smith is described as a Black female, approximately 5-foot-3, 107 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

A tipster identified the couple's car and alerted investigators, according to the release. The Aiken County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team and North Augusta Department of Public Safety assisted in the operation to arrest Harmon on his outstanding arrest warrant for domestic violence in the second degree.

On Nov. 10, Harmon strangled Smith with two hands at the same Beech Island address where they would later go missing, according to warrants. She had injuries to her neck and an obstructed airway.

There was a child nearby during the incident who saw the strangling, according to warrants.
