Aiken, Edgefield school districts to start classes July 25 next year

Nov. 24—Aiken and Edgefield public schools will both have a modified calendar next year with students set to return to classes July 25, 2023.

In March, Aiken County Board of Education members approved the modified calendar for the 2023-24 school year. That calendar has students starting July 25. A fall break is scheduled for Oct. 2-13, with Oct. 2-6 as the intercession week. Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 22-24. Christmas break for students will be Dec. 20, 2023 to Jan. 3, 2024. Spring break will be April 1-12, with the intercession week set for April 1-5, 2024. The last day of school will be Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Other breaks on the proposed calendar include Labor Day on Sept. 4, 2023; weather make-up day on Friday, Oct. 20; Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 15; a holiday and President's Day Friday, Feb. 16 and Monday, Feb. 19, 2024; a weather make-up day on Thursday, March 28; a Good Friday holiday on Friday, March 29, 2024; and Memorial Day on May 27.

The Edgefield County Board of Education approved the 2023-2024 academic calendar during its meeting Nov. 15. In a press release, the school district stated this would be the second year for Edgefield to be on the modified calendar schedule.

The first day of school for students will be July 25. Fall break is scheduled from Oct. 2-13, with Oct. 2-6 as intercession days. Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 22-24. Christmas break will be Dec. 20-Jan. 3, 2024. Spring break will be April 1-12, with intercession days April 1-5, 2024. The last day of school is May 30, 2024.

Other holidays include Labor Day on Sept. 4, 2023 and a staff development day Sept. 5; Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be Jan. 15, 2024; a student holiday will be Feb. 16 and President's Day will be Feb. 19; a staff development day and student holiday will be March 28-29; Memorial Day will be May 27.
