Aiken officers report a shooting at Walmart on Whiskey Road

The Aiken Department of Public Safety reported late Wednesday a shooting at the Walmart on Whiskey Road.

The alleged shooter is in custody, according to a social media post issued by the department at about 9 p.m.

Police dispatch reported shots fired at 7:34 p.m. at the Walmart. Dispatch told officers a 13-year-old was injured, but the department had not confirmed any injuries as of 9:15 p.m.

Callers told dispatch they heard the shots fired inside the store and described the shooter as a male, according to dispatch.

Officers were informed by dispatch that the alleged shooter went to a KFC after the shooting and called police. Dispatch reported that the shooter left the weapon inside Walmart.

In a social media post, the department said there is no danger to the public "at this time."
