Aug. 28—Equestrian events in Aiken are a normal occurrence.
But do you know how many and how often they are held? Bruce's Field at Aiken Horse Park is constantly busy with events, many of which are open to the public. Kate Boggan, director of marketing and communications with the Aiken Horse Park Foundation, said the organization is a nonprofit and they work to promote the equestrian way of life in Aiken.
"One of the main ways we do this is by hosting these horse shows," Boggan said. "We are strictly a horse show facility, so if there's not a show, there are not horses out here... we are an event venue only. In 2022 we have 24 weeks of horse shows going on here and (the shows vary)."
Boggan said they work to have something for everyone, no matter the discipline. All the events are open to the public and all but two are free of charge. The two ticketed events are the Aiken International CSI2 in November and the Grand-Prix event in March, but members of the public can purchase tickets to these events.
The schedule of events for the rest of 2022 at Bruce's Field include Aiken Fall Festival from Sept. 7-11 and Sept. 14-18, South Carolina Equestrian Special Olympics on Sept. 24, October at Bruce's from Oct. 20-23 and Oct. 27-30, Aiken International CSI2 from Nov. 9-13, and Aiken December Classics from Dec. 1-4, Dec. 8-11 and Dec. 15-18.
The shows held at the field are either hosted by Aiken Horse Park or an outside management company, Boggan said. In fact, about 70% of the shows are from outside companies and all shows that are held at Bruce Field has to have a charitable beneficiary. This could be either financial or raising awareness with flyers or booths set up at the event.
