The BBC has released a first-look image at Amy Lou Wood as Gemma in upcoming comedy Daddy Issues, also starring The Walking Dead's David Morrissey.

The Sex Education star leads this father-daughter comedy from the team behind The Inbetweeners and created by Danielle Ward, who's penned episodes of Brassic.

In the first-look image Wood's Gemma and her dad Malcolm are sat on the sofa with a telling look on their faces, a little taster of the shenanigans this unlikely duo will have to deal with in the six-episode run.

The series follows the two characters as they move in together in the wake of unexpected circumstances.

When Gemma gets pregnant after a random holiday hookup, she turns to her recently divorced, helpless dad Malcolm for help. The duo have to adjust to their new routines, with Malcolm badly navigating his single life when Gemma's mum leaves him, wiping their joint bank account to travel around the world à la Eat Pray Love.

"At its heart Daddy Issues is a classic odd couple comedy about two funny, deeply flawed characters, who just happen to be father and daughter," the official logline reads.

"From dating disasters and failed romances through to toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, plus a dangerously sociopathic antenatal teacher, Daddy Issues is an affectionate heart-warming story between father and daughter and the reality of facing up to parenthood - at any stage of life."

Speaking about taking the role of Gemma, Wood praised Ward's writing, saying: "It had been a very long time since a script had made me laugh out loud."

"Danielle's did exactly that. Then when I heard David was involved, I was even more excited," the actress continued.

Cast for the series is rounded out by Wood's Sex Education co-star Susan Lynch, as well as David Fynn (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Sharon Rooney (Barbie), Sarah Hadland (Miranda), Taj Atwal (Hullraisers), Arian Nik (Count Abdulla), Tom Stourton (Stath Lets Flats), Susannah Fielding (This Time with Alan Partridge) and Lauren O'Rourke (Henpocalypse).

Cyril Nri (Death in Paradise), Cora Kirk (Grantchester), Perry Fitzgerald (Line of Duty), Claire Keelan (The Trip), Damien Molony (Brassic), Sherrie Hewson (Benidorm), Humphrey Ker (Welcome to Wrexham) and David Reed (Ghosts) also feature in supporting roles.

A release date for Daddy Issues is yet to be announced.
