Aimee Lou Wood will write and star in new BBC drama

Aimee Lou Wood has been commissioned to write and star in a new BBC series.
The former Sex Education star's upcoming project was one of several announced on Wednesday (February 21) for the BBC by its director of drama, Lindsay Salt.
Aimee will be collaborating with co-writer Ralph Davis on a series called Film Club, a six-part romantic comedy about two friends who use their love of movies to hint that they are madly in love with one another.
When Tom gets a job offer at the other end of the country, Evie has to just their film club as a way to show him how much she really cares.
"When Ralph and I met a decade ago we knew pretty much instantly that we wanted to create something together and this feels deeply organic and idiosyncratic and right," Aimee said.
"Jamie [Jackson] at Gaumont has been the most incredible collaborator and the BBC is the perfect home. Three of the most essential things to me have always been writing stories, watching films and acting so the fact I get to write a story ABOUT watching films AND act in it is beyond joyful.”

This new project comes during a very busy time for Wood though, as she has several high-profile film and TV projects lined up over the next year.
It was most recently reported that she'll co-star with BAFTA TV Award-nominated actor Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You and The Lazarus Project) in the film Sweet Dreams, a crime thriller described as "the British Fargo".
The film will take place in a seaside town where a brutal chain of events take place after a property developer is robbed of his millions.
On the TV front, Wood will be part of the highly anticipated third season of The White Lotus, alongside returning cast member Natasha Rothwell, Walton Goggins (Justified) and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter).
She will also be co-starring with Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker in the Netflix series Toxic Town about the Corby poisonings scandal, and teaming up with The Walking Dead's David Morrissey in BBC family comedy Daddy Issues.

If Wood wasn't busy enough, she's also currently starring in Channel 4's romantic drama series Alice & Jack with Domhnall Gleeson and Andrea Riseborough.
She has now wrapped her four-season stint in Netflix's Sex Education, where she earned a BAFTA TV Award for Best Female Comedy Performance. She also worked on stage in the West End last year in the revival of Cabaret.
The BBC hasn't announced a release window yet for Film Club.
