'That Ain't Good': Hurricane Laura Lifts Roof From Building in Lake Charles, Louisiana

A roof was blown from a Lake Charles building in the early hours of August 27 as Hurricane Laura tore through southern Louisiana.

Footage of the incident was captured by local resident Brent Manuel, who was sheltering in Johnson Funeral Home during the storm. He subsequently posted footage of the event on his Facebook page.

The hurricane left a path of destruction along the US Gulf Coast, resulting in at least six deaths, according to local media.

Speaking to Storyful, Manuel said he was in the building that gets damaged in the video shortly before capturing the footage.

“Myself and three other people were in the employee lounge watching The Weather Channel,” he said.

“My friend Troy Courville said to lock the doors before I exited the lounge because that would be the first building to get damaged if winds got bad,” he added.

“About 30 minutes later that lounge was destroyed,” Manuel said. Credit: Brent Manuel via Storyful
