Air quality alert issued for Stanislaus County. Here are weather conditions for the weekend

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District issued an air quality alert Wednesday afternoon for Stanislaus County.

The alert stems from strong, northwesterly winds in The San Joaquin Valley that are expected to continue overnight, Valley Air District said in a news release.

Blowing dust is elevating the concentrations of inhalable particulate matter emissions in some areas, the district said. Impacted residents are advised to stay indoors to minimize exposure.

Those with existing respiratory conditions (including COVID-19), young children and the elderly are especially susceptible to the health effects from this form of pollution. Exposure to particulate pollution can trigger asthma attacks, aggravate chronic bronchitis and increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and respiratory infections, the district said.

Residents can visit the AirNow website to monitor particulate matter levels, or call Valley Air District at 209-557-6400 for more information.
