Airbnb hosts stand to gain from Indy 500. Here's some of the most expensive homes for rent.

The Indy 500 is bringing tens of thousands of fans to Indianapolis, and with it, tens of thousands of dollars in revenue to the city's hospitality industry. Airbnb hosts, in particular, stand to benefit from visitors seeking a more personalized, homey stay than the typical hotel.

"The Indy 500 is a wonderful opportunity for local hosts to earn much needed ancillary income, as the return of big events is a meaningful economic opportunity," Haven Thorn, an Airbnb spokesperson, said.

Last year, during the two weeks leading up to the Indy 500 Memorial Day weekend, Airbnb hosts in Indiana collectively made over $1 million with the typical host earning almost $1,000, Thorn said.

The tourists who stay with Airbnb flock in from far and wide, with most of them coming from the Midwest, Manhattan, Greensboro, N.C., Las Vegas, Davidson, N.C. and Los Angeles, according to Airbnb data of the origin cities of travelers during the two weeks before and up to Memorial Day.

To cater to these guests, Airbnb hosts have tailored their listings and, in some cases, offered discounts on otherwise pricey stays.

Take a look at some of the most expensive homes for rent on Airbnb during Indy500 season.

Near north side penthouse

This Airbnb on the near north side tops out the list at $3,531 a night over Memorial Day. In exchange for the whopping price tag, this penthouse apartment houses 14 guests, according to the listing, and features city skyline views.

The listing says: "Take a dip in the hot tub, throw something on the grill, chill by the fire, challenge your guests to an array of games — all in the comfort of your own space."

Granted, it houses up to 11 overnight guests and boasts a self-described ‘chef’s kitchen.’

This 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom house in Wynnedale, not far from Speedway, rests on 1.8 acres of woodlands. At $950 a night over Memorial Day weekend, it is discounted from the usual rate of $1,300 a night.

The listing says: "Our home was newly remodeled in 2016 and I just love it! I enjoy lots of natural light, hardwood floors and decor with a vintage, industrial vibe."
