Ruston, Benton, Haughton pick up Class 5A victories in high school football Friday

Ruston 48, Alexandria 23: Ruston’s Jordan Hayes rushed 19 times for 184 yards as the Bearcats (5-1, 1-0) ran for 395 yards against Alexandria (3-3, 0-1).

Jaydon Mayfield scored two touchdowns while Lajaveon Ellis and Dylone Brooks also had rushing TDa for the Bearcats. Zhy Scott had a TD reception from Jaden Osborne. ASH’s Joe Bordelon passed for 272 yards and two scores. Datlan Cunningham added a rushing TD for the Trojans.

Benton 62, Natchitoches Central 15: Benton (3-3, 2-1) scored more than 50 points for a fourth consecutive week with a win against Natchitoches Central (2-4,1-2). Gray Walters tossed five TDs to Pearce Russell (3), Brady Blalock and Andy Lim. Greg Manning added four rushing TDs. 

Haughton 23, Byrd 14: The Buccaneers (4-2, 2-1) shut down Byrd (4-2, 1-2) and got two TDs from Tyler Rhodes, along with one from Jalen Lewis.

Minden 33, Bossier 6: Minden (2-4, 1-2) was powered by three TDs from Daylen Robinson on 15 carries for 160 yards against Bossier (0-6, 0-3). Cameron Mitchell had a 10-yard rushing TD and a 26-yard TD reception from Jakobe Jackson. Mitchell had seven receptions for 102 yards, while Quintarion Scott had the Bearkats' TD on a 3-yard run.

North Desoto 47, Woodlawn 6: The Griffins continue dominating District 1-4A with a win over Woodlawn. Brian Banks scored three TDs and Cole Cory to for North Desoto (6-0, 3-0). John Lewis and Corbyn Cross each had a TD. Freshman Luke Delafield threw four TDs. DJ Bates’ TD reception was the only score for the Knights (2-4, 1-2).

Avoyelles 68, Oakdale 34: The Mustangs (4-2, 1-0) took the District 4-2A win over Oakdale (3-2, 0-1). Decareyn Sampson had 357 total offensive yards, including four rushing TDs and two receiving. Carlos Bazert rushed for 145 yards and three scores. Josh Williams rushed for 150 yards.

Winnfield 54, Lakeview 20: The Tigers (5-1, 1-0) topped Lakeview (4-2, 0-1) for the District 3-2A win. Trey Starks rushed for two scores and was on the receiving end of a pass from Malachi Jackson, who added two rushing scores. Dillon Pikes scored three TDs for the Gators.

Haynesville 28, Oak Grove 21: The Golden Tornado (5-1) took a break from their District 1-A schedule to take on powerhouse Oak Grove (3-3). Toby Franklin scored two touchdowns and rushed for 155 yards, while J'Karious Turner added a rushing touchdown and Keizavion Woods managed a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Rosepine 42, Logansport 22: Grant Ducote was too much for the Tigers (4-2) with his 26 carries for 201 yards and three TDs for Rosepine (5-1). Logansport was limited to minus-3 yards offense in the second half. Jayveon Claybrook scored on a 1-yard run for the Tigers, while Jukadynn Carter scored on a 12-yard run and D'wart'tez Chatham added a scoop-and-score for a 53-yard TD.

Homer 68, Plain Dealing 0: The Pelicans (5-1, 3-0) topped the Lions (0-6, 0-3) in the District 1-1A contest. Ely'Jay Curry scored two TDs; Greg Williams, Robtavious Monroe, Marshaun Shavers, Katrevick Banks and Jamarquese Hampton also scored. Lamichael Greer and Cameron Winzer added defensive TDs.

St. Mary's 56, Lasalle 8: St. Mary's picked up where it left off after an open week with a win over Lasalle (3-3, 0-1). Adam Parker had a hand in three TDs for the Tigers (5-1, 2-0), including two TD passes to Ben Bienvenu and Joe Metoyer. Metoyer and Conor Jordan each had two rushing TDs, and Hudson Methvin also scored.

Glenbrook 67, Magnolia 44: Glenbrook (6-0, 3-0) remained undefeated with a scoring bonanza at Magnolia (0-6, 0-2). DJ Carter scored three TDs, including an interception return. Maddox Mandino intercepted two passes and returned one for a score. Magnolia's Mark McCray TD threw two passes and rushed for another, while DeAndre Johnson had a scoop and score for the Mariners. Special teams saw Mitchell Adams score a TD on a kickoff return.

Northwood 21, Evangel 20: The Falcons (4-2, 2-1) came back from a 17-0 deficit to get the district win against Evangel (3-3, 2-1). Evangel's Parker Fulghum tossed TD passes to Tyreek Robinson and Peyton Fulghum, and Kaegan Kent added a 15-yard field goal.

Red River 28, Jonesboro-Hodge 22: Red River (2-4, 1-0) won its homecoming matchup against Jonesboro-Hodge (2-4, 0-1). Ed'Tavous Drayton had 22 rushes for 132 yards and a TD, and Chance Leonard added a score.

Thursday games

Airline 42, Captain Shreve 14: Airline got three touchdown receptions from Daxton Chavez and one from Bob Patterson in blowing past Captain Shreve with a big second half.

The Vikings (3-3, 3-0 Disrict 1-5A), who committed three turnovers in the first quarter, led just 14-7 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half behind quarterback Ben Taylor, who tossed four touchdowns after being intercepted for a touchdown on his opening drive. He finished with 267 passing yards.

The Gators (3-3, 0-3) lost for a third consecutive game. Shreve’s only offensive touchdown came late in the fourth quarter on a pass from Brody Savage to Keaton Flowers.

Parkway 55, Southwood 6: The Panthers (6-0, 3-0) got four touchdown passes from Ashton Martin, including three to Jaylan White, in rolling past the Cowboys (0-6, 0-3). Jatavious Calhoun scored on a 1-yard run and a 24-yard reception, while Antonio Gladney rushed for two touchdowns and Demond Blackwell added a 64-yard scoring run.

Parkway center Chandler Davis posted 10 pancake blocks.

Cedar Creek 52, River Oaks 0: The Cougars (4-2, 1-0 District 2-1A) got a blowout victory against River Oaks (2-4, 0-1) in a district opener.
