Small airplane carrying 2 people crashes in Idaho County near Snake River on Wednesday

Two people walked away from a plane crash uninjured Wednesday night in Idaho County near the Oregon state line.

Dispatch received a notification that a Cessna aircraft was in distress at around 8 p.m., according to a news release from the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

The aircraft crashed near Dry Gulch on the Snake River about 12 miles from Riggins, the release said. There are landing strips on each side of the river at the site.

The sheriff’s release did not include the names of the two people who survived the crash.

Authorities in Idaho County and Wallowa County, Oregon, were alerted because the crash occurred near the state line, according to the release. Wallowa County Sheriff Joel Fish dispatched an air ambulance to the site, the release said, and an aircraft transported the two people to Lewiston.

An eyewitness who was rafting nearby also reported the crash and confirmed that it had occurred on the Idaho side of the river.

The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for further comment.
