Airsoft gun on campus led to lockdown of Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership

Joseph Stilwell Military Academy of Leadership was on a brief Code Red lockdown on Thursday after an airsoft gun was found on campus, Duval County Public Schools said.

School officials got a report of a firearm on campus, but it turned out to be an airsoft gun, which is an item that is prohibited from being on campus, according to a message to Stilwell families from Principal Tamara Roper.

Here is the full message from Roper that was sent to parents:

“Hello Stilwell families, this is Principal Roper calling. As you know, I want to keep you informed if anything happens that disrupts our school day, and we just had one of those disruptions. First, all students and staff are safe. Again, all students and staff are safe. We did, however, go on a brief lockdown due to a report of a firearm being in the possession of one of our students. We investigated quickly, and thankfully, the firearm was only an airsoft gun. Of course, this is a prohibited item on campus, and we will implement discipline based on the code of conduct. I want to express my thanks and appreciation to those who reported this information. See something, say something remains one of our best strategies to maintain a safe campus. I appreciate all of you who are vigilant regarding the safety of our school. Again, I just want to keep you informed. Thanks for all your support of our school and have a great rest of your day. Good-bye.”
