Akia Uwanda visits St. Augustine for 2 performances

Jacksonville singer Akia Uwanda makes her return to St. Augustine with two festival performances this weekend, one in Lincolnville and one in downtown St. Augustine.

Renowned jazz and soul vocalist Akia, who has performed many times in the area, will wrap up the Lincolnville Jazz at the Excelsior series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center, 102 Martin Luther King Ave. in St. Augustine. Tickets, $25 in advance, can be purchased at lincolnvillemuseum.org.

She returns a night later as headliner of St. Augustine’s Romanza Festivale of Music & the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, in Trinity Hall at Trinity Parish, 5 Artillery Lane in downtown St. Augustine. Admission to her Romana concert is free.

Akia, who performed at the 2021 Romanza Festivale as well, will sing music from Sade, Anita Baker and Chaka Khan.

Uwanda has opened for Earth, Wind and Fire and Avery Sunshine and shared the stage with Gregory Porter and Kamasi Washington.

Akia, a Jacksonville native, released her debut album “Lift” at the 2017 Jacksonville Jazz Festival.
