Heath Hosts Japanese Ceramicist Akio Nukaga and His New Works

This week, Heath Ceramics on Beverly Boulevard hosts Japanese master potter Akio Nukaga, a longtime friend of the brand whose work has been sold at Heath’s retail spaces for a decade. Heath co-owners Cathy Bailey and Robin Petravic and studio director Tung Chiang will welcome Nukaga for a public cocktail reception on Saturday, June 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nukaga will then demonstrate his wheel-throwing techniques on June 9 at 1 p.m. at the showroom. (Nukaga’s new pieces will be in stock while inventory lasts.)

New Members Join LAXART Board of Directors

Community arts organization LAXART has announced new members of its board of directors, including musician and artist Kim Gordon, interdisciplinary artist Zenas Hutcheson, artist Glenn Ligon, and artistic director of the Marciano Art Foundation (MAF) Olivia Marciano. LAXART’s next exhibition, opening on June 2 at its Hollywood gallery, is “Relax into the Invisible,” showcasing the work of San Francisco graphic designer Barbara Stauffacher Solomon, who is known for the supergraphics she created at the seminal Sea Ranch community on the Sonoma Coast, among other influential projects.

Johnson Favaro Announced as Designer of La Cienega Park New Master Plan

Culver City–based architecture and urban design firm Johnson Favaro has been selected for the master plan and redesign of the 17-acre La Cienega Park at Beverly Hills’s eastern boundary. The project scope applies to the expansion of existing athletic fields, a new 25,000-square-foot community center, a 30,000-square foot recreation facility, a preschool, indoor and outdoor facilities, as well as a new elevated platform that extends over La Cienega Boulevard to connect the sprawling site. Construction is expected to begin in 2021 and continue through 2023.

The EMA Impact Summit and Bisnow State of the Market Seminar Take Place This Week

The Environmental Media Association (EMA) awards are held this week, along with the 2019 EMA IMPACT Summit on May 29 and 30 at the Montage Beverly Hills. Panels feature leaders from multiple industries such as Alan Fuerstman of Montage International, Mayor Eric Garcetti, actress Malin Åkerman, network executive Kevin Reilly, and recycled plastics designer-activist Dave Hakkens. Also on May 29, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., Bisnow is presenting the “State of the Market” networking and educational event at the Trust Building in DTLA, focusing on commercial real estate in Los Angeles.

Neutra Scholar to Lecture on the Architect’s Landscape Design and Gardens Legacy

The California Garden and Landscape History Society presents “Richard Neutra, Landscape Architect,” a lecture by noted architectural historian and Neutra expert Barbara Lamprecht, Ph.D. The free talk is scheduled for Monday, June 3, at 7 p.m. at Rothenberg Hall, located at the Huntington Library, Art Gallery, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino.
