One person was rescued after being trapped in an attic during a house fire early Wednesday in Akron.

The person, who was not identified, was rescued from the attic and taken to a local hospital, the Akron Fire Department said. The person's condition was not given.

Firefighters were called at 1:29 a.m. to 332 Gold St., in the city's West Hill neighborhood, for a report of people trapped in a duplex house that had flames showing from the attic.

Firefighters found smoke and flames from the front and right sides of the duplex. The fire was under control shortly after 2 a.m.

The American Red Cross was called to help three other people displaced from both apartments in the house. No firefighters were reported injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the fire department said.

This was the third Akron house fire this week.

Firefighters knocked down a fire that was showing smoke and flames at 1:29 p.m. Monday in a duplex at 369 W. Exchange St. in the West Hill neighborhood. Two adults and two children were displaced and helped by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was being investigated.

In the second fire on Monday, a man was rescued from the roof of a residence at 1221 Orlando Ave. in West Akron. That fire was reported at 2:35 p.m. Smoke and flames were seen in the second story of the residence. No one else was found inside and no injuries were reported. The cause of that fire is also being investigated.
