A 65-year-old Akron man died Thursday morning after his car slammed into the rear of a stopped Metro RTA bus in the city, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, the medical examiner's office said. His name was not released immediately pending notification of next of kin.

The crash happened at about 9 a.m. The man was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser that was going eastbound on West Cedar Street when it struck the bus just west of Bell Street in the city's Sherbondy Hill neighborhood, the medical examiner's office said.

The bus was stopped at a bus stop at the time.

Two other people were reported injured in the crash, Akron police said.

The 49-year-old female bus driver received minor injuries and was treated at Summa Akron City Hospital. A 53-year-old male passenger was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General for treatment of a minor injury, police said.

The crash is being investigated and may have been caused by a medical emergency, Akron police said. Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
