Akron man falls to death from hotel balcony in Myrtle Beach after trying to do handstand

An Akron man fell to his death from a hotel balcony last week during Hurricane Ian in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Markell Hope, 34, was trying to do a handstand on a hotel balcony when he fell 15 stories to his death Sept. 30, the Horry County Coroner's office told South Carolina media. He was pronounced dead at the scene 2:30 p.m., with Myrtle Beach police investigating.

Hope, who was from Akron, was staying at the Patricia Grand Hotel on the 15th floor, the coroner's office said.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department is investigating.
