Akron murder suspect arrested in West Virginia after 5-year search

An Akron murder suspect was arrested Thursday in West Virginia after a five-year search.

Members of the Akron division of Northern Ohio's fugitive task force traveled to Parkersburg, West Virginia, Thursday morning and arrested Christopher Johnson, 30.

Akron police and the U.S. Marshals Service had been looking for Johnson since September 2017, according to a release. Johnson was wanted in the Sept. 19, 2017, shooting death of Brandon Belleville. Police say Johnson and three others broke into the victim’s home in the 600 block of Minerva Place and shot and killed Belleville. The three other men, Quincy Chatman, Harold Burros and Lamarr Jackson, were all arrested and convicted in Belleville’s death.

The task force, Akron police and FBI worked together for the past five years to determine Johnson’s location. Acting on new information Thursday, the task force traveled to Parkersburg and arrested Johnson at an apartment building in the 1900 block of 27th Street, a release said. A firearm was also recovered during the arrest.

Johnson will remain in custody in Parkersburg until he can be extradited back to Summit County.
