An evangelical pastor called Kamala Harris “Hillary Clinton in blackface” in a shocking exchange following the vice presidential debate with Mike Pence. Darrell Scott made the offensive comment while appearing as a guest on Laura Ingraham's Fox News show The Ingraham Angle on Wednesday. Mr Scott and Scott Bolden, former chair of the DC Democratic State Committee, were discussing the Democratic vice-presidential nominee's comments on Black Lives Matter protests which occurred across the US.
Thirteen people have been arrested on charges of plotting to kidnap the Democrat governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, and violently overthrow the state government. Joe Gasper, head of Michigan state police, said the plot and subsequent arrests were "unprecedented".
Denmark on Wednesday summoned the Iranian ambassador over reports the diplomatic mission had allegedly pressured Iranian women living in the Scandinavian country to accept divorce terms drawn up by local imams. The summons follows recent reports in Danish media about Muslim women being forced to accept divorce deals made by imams in Denmark. A contract made by one imam said that a woman, among other things, had to accept that if she remarried, she would lose the custody of her children.
When his neighbor was in danger one day in 2018, Donald Lowrie raced right into the fight. Now Lowrie, 50, is being celebrated as a national hero for rescuing the 8-year-old girl who was being attacked in her home by two pit bulls. Lowrie is one of 17 people awarded the 2020 Carnegie medal, which recognizes people who have risked their lives trying to save others.
Conservative pundit Rick Santorum on Wednesday interrupted CNN's Gloria Borger in an effort to defend Vice President Mike Pence, who was also accused of interrupting women. Following the 2020 vice presidential debate, Borger reflected on Pence's habit of interrupting both Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and moderator Susan Page. But before Borger could make her point, Santorum interrupted.
President Donald Trump on Thursday poured cold water on any suggestion his son, Don Jr, could run for mayor of New York City, saying he "wouldn't have a chance of winning". "No, I hope [he doesn't run] because he couldn't win as a Republican," said Mr Trump, when asked by Fox Business host, Maria Bartiromo, if Don Jr might throw his hat into the ring in the 2021 race. Mr Trump, who appears frequently on Fox, had been discussing the elimination of cash bail in New York, a policy he claimed has "destroyed" the city.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday promised to work with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to counter Russia's "malign influence" and offered British support for Ukraine's defence and security. "The two leaders discussed the importance of working together to counter Russia's malign influence, both in Ukraine and in the wider region," a Downing Street spokesman said.
A $1,000 private dance involving two hired strippers in a Miami Beach hotel room turned into a car chase and a shooting after the two women refused to have sex with their clients, Miami Beach police said. One of the women was injured by broken glass from the bullet striking the vehicle's window. And the alleged shooter was captured and arrested several hours later, police said, when he returned to his hotel room to pick up some belongings.
To prepare for Wednesday night's debate, Vice President Mike Pence participated in three 90-minute practice sessions with former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) all standing in as Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), NBC News' Hallie Jackson reports. Pence also received debate help from Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who called him on the phone, a person with knowledge of the matter told Jackson. On Harris' side, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg played the role of Pence during their debate prep.
But according to a new analysis by polling expert Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight, that possibility is most unlikely. Released on October 7, "FiveThirtyEight's 2020 House of Representatives Election Forecast" says that Democrats have a 92-97% chance of maintaining their House majority in November — and it is possible that they will even expand it slightly. FiveThirtyEight's Nathaniel Rakich explains, "While Democrats are slight favorites to flip the Senate and Joe Biden is a solid-but-not-overwhelming frontrunner for the presidency, Democrats have between a 92 and 97% chance of keeping control of the House."
Facebook has removed hundreds of fake accounts tied to right-wing group Turning Point USA, which enlisted a now-banned marketing group to flood comment sections of news stories to attack Joe Biden and Democrats while praising Donald Trump. The social media company announced on Thursday that marketing firm Rally Forge had worked with Turning Point USA to make 200 profiles and 55 pages on the platform and 76 on Instagram, beginning in 2018 and continuing through 2020. Facebook said the accounts violated the company's polices about “coordinated inauthentic behaviour” that relied “on real people, not automation” to “create the perception of wide-spread support of their narratives by leaving comments on posts by media entities and public figures.”
Yale University was sued on Thursday by the U.S. Department of Justice, which accused the Ivy League school of illegally discriminating against Asian and white applicants in undergraduate admissions. The Justice Department said Yale's discrimination on the basis of race and national origin violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Thursday's lawsuit followed a two-year investigation that followed a complaint by Asian-American groups about the New Haven, Connecticut-based university's practices.

"Women watching that are going to say, 'Wait a minute,'" Borger began to say before Santorum interjected: "Don't make the claim that he interrupted her repeatedly, because he didn't."
President Donald Trump may believe contracting the coronavirus was a “blessing from God,” but it's a safe bet his infected White House staff, the nearly 213,000 families of Americans who've died from COVID-19, the millions who survived it and those who still suffer from it probably feel differently. Crede Bailey, who heads the security office at the White House, contracted the virus last month and, according to Bloomberg, is “gravely ill. Bailey's department works directly with the Secret Service and handles credentials for gaining access to the White House and its surrounding grounds.
My favorite recipe was Flay's because it was easy to follow and its special whipped cream was delicious. The pie I made using pastry-chef legend Ansel's recipe was a disaster to make, and it tasted quite bland. When it comes to fall comfort foods, nothing takes the cake quite like a slice of homemade pumpkin pie.
Udonis Haslem is honest about it: Elections simply have not been overly important to him. “Growing up in my household, voting was never a conversation,” Haslem said. It definitely wasn't a conversation when I was hanging out with my homeboys.
Mike Pence once more repeated claims that a Joe Biden administration would end fracking during his debate with Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee. Amid a discussion on the environment and the climate crisis on Wednesday night, Mr Pence made the unsubstantiated claim that the Democratic presidential nominee would “ban fracking”. Instead, the Democratic presidential candidate has said he would not ban the controversial drilling practice because the United States needed to “transition” to newer and cleaner energy sources.
Mayor Bill de Blasio warned there would be “no tolerance” for violence after a night of furious protests in the city's Orthodox community over new shutdown orders in Brooklyn and Queens — which will take effect Thursday morning. Neighborhoods in so-called “red zones” where the coronavirus is rapidly spreading will face closure of nonessential businesses, strict limits on houses of worship, and a ban on gatherings under orders issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Infection rates have surged, in some cases as high as 8 percent, as city and state leaders nervously stare down a potential second wave of the virus in a city that lost close to 24,000 lives and once formed the national epicenter of the Covi...
