Akron woman dies after her car is rear-ended in crash in Kenmore

An Akron woman was killed in a crash in which another car rear-ended her car, pushing her into the car in front of her, in Akron's Kenmore neighborhood on Tuesday morning, according to the Akron Police Department and Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Tashanna Junius, 32, of Akron was killed in the crash at Manchester and West Wilbeth roads around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said.

According to police, a Chevy Impala and a Kia Optima were stopped at a red light in northbound traffic on Manchester Road at West Wilbeth Road when a Ford Taurus, driven by a 35-year-old man traveling north, failed to maintain an assured clear distance and struck the Kia from behind.

Because of the initial impact, the Kia was pushed into the Chevy, police said.

Junius, the driver of the Kia, was unresponsive at the scene and taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where she died just after 10 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

The drivers of the Ford and Chevy weren't injured in the crash.

According to police, speed and alcohol or drugs are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, and charges are expected after the ongoing investigation.
