A 38-year-old Akron woman died Friday afternoon after her SUV went off Interstate 76 in Springfield Township, according to the Akron post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Interstate 76 westbound about 1:30 p.m. near the Gilchrist Road exit in Springfield Township.

The patrol said a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Crystal Denise Bell drifted off the left side of the roadway and side swiped a concrete barrier. The vehicle came back onto the roadway, drove off the right side of the highway and struck a guard rail. Bell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Bell was taken by ambulance to Summa Akron City Hospital, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Alcohol and/or drugs aren't believed to be a factor in the crash.

The OSHP, Akron Police Department and Springfield Township Police Department responded.
