The University of Akron's football game Saturday against the Buffalo Bulls in Buffalo, N.Y., has been postponed indefinitely, the Mid-American Conference announced in a Saturday morning update.

More than five feet of snow has fallen in the Buffalo area necessitating the move. There had been talk of possibly playing Sunday, according to reports, but continued inclement weather and a travel ban made it impossible.

“Despite the best efforts of all involved, it is not feasible to play the football game between Akron and Buffalo on Sunday,” said MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher in a prepared statement. "The game has been postponed indefinitely. The safety of the student-athletes and fans is paramount.  We want to be respectful of the efforts of the emergency service personnel in the Buffalo area who are working to assist those in need.”

The game was set to kick off at 3:30 p.m.

“The Conference will continue to explore opportunities to play the game and will provide more information as it becomes available,” the MAC said in a statement.

A decision regarding rescheduling the contest will be made during the week of Nov. 20-26.

Should it be necessary, the league will use its "uneven number of games tiebreaker policy" to sort out the winner of the MAC East Division.
