Alabama adds deputy AD Karin Lee to Greg Byrne's leadership team

Alabama has a new deputy director of athletics.

UA announced Wednesday that Karin Lee will be the next deputy AD, senior woman administrator and chief diversity officer for UA athletics. She is the sixth member of Athletics Director Greg Byrne’s leadership team.

Lee most recently served as Ball State’s deputy athletic director/SWA. She has worked at Ball State since 2007. Before then, Lee oversaw the life skills program and community outreach for UA athletics from 1997-2007.

“We are pleased to welcome Karin back to Alabama,” Byrne said in a statement. “She impressed us throughout the entire interview process and know she will be an incredible addition to our executive team. Karin comes highly recommended from many industry leaders, which is no surprise after seeing all she’s been involved with and accomplished in her career.”

Lee replaces Tiffini Grimes, who returned to Purdue, her alma mater, in July to also serve as deputy AD and SWA.

In coming back to Tuscaloosa, Lee joins J. Batt, Jessica Paré, Matt Self, Kyle Vasey and Mike Ward on Byrne’s executive leadership team.

Lee received her master’s degree from North Carolina in 1997 and her Ph.D. from Capella in 2014.

“I would like to thank Director Greg Byrne for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to working with the staff, coaches and student-athletes at Alabama,” Lee said in a statement. “The University of Alabama provided me the opportunity to start my career and now to return back to where it all began is something I will cherish.”
