Alabama basketball to play Texas A&M Corpus Christi in March Madness opener

Alabama basketball will open March Madness against Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Thursday.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi earned a 75-71 over Southeast Missouri State on Tuesday night in Dayton, Ohio. The Islanders were led by Jalen Jackson with 22 points.

Alabama and Texas A&M Corpus Christi will face off in the NCAA Tournament first round on Thursday (1:45 p.m., CBS) at Legacy Arena in Birmingham. The winner of the game will go on to face the winner of Maryland and West Virginia.

The Crimson Tide earned the No. 1 overall seed for the first time in program history. Alabama swept the SEC regular-season championship and tournament championship. Brandon Miller, the SEC Player of the Year, leads the team with 19.5 points a game and 8.3 rebounds per game.

The TAMCC Islanders (23-10) won the Southland Conference over Northwestern State. They are led by Tennyson Treviaan with 15.7 points a game and average 80.4 points per game.
