Alabama bassist Teddy Gentry arrested on marijuana charges

Police arrested Teddy Gentry, co-founding member and bassist in influential country outfit Alabama, earlier this week on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge, according to the Associated Press.

Officers booked Gentry briefly into a Cherokee County jail Monday morning; he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, the AP reported. Cherokee County borders the band's hometown, Fort Payne, Alabama, located about 160 miles southeast of Nashville.

Gentry did not have comment at publication time, according to a representative for the band.

Known for 'Mountain Music," "Song of the South" and "My Home's In Alabama," the familial band entered the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Alabama last played Nashville in July 2021, a delayed 50th anniversary concert at Bridgestone Arena that featured Martina McBride and surprise guest Tim McGraw.
