Alabama Confirms 19 Coronavirus Deaths, Adds 982 New Cases

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 982 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, and added 19 deaths from the virus to its total. Current total in Alabama stand at 118,134 cases and 2,102 deaths since the pandemic began.

Of the 982 new cases reported Tuesday, 200 of those were reported in Jefferson County, which was the only county in the state that reported more than 100 new cases for the day.

In the last two weeks, the state has confirmed 12,142 cases of COVID-19, almost half of the 14-day total the state reported when Gov. Kay Ivey ordered the statewide mask mandate July 15.

Thus far, 949,438 COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state. Of the 118,134 positive tests, 48,028 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. As of Tuesday, 818 patients remained hospitalized in Alabama with COVID-19.

The counties reporting the most new cases Tuesday:

  • Jefferson County: 200 new cases; 16,072 total

  • Madison County: 71 new cases; 6,329 total

  • Shelby County: 71 new cases; 4,166 total

  • Tuscaloosa County: 57 new cases; 5,187 total

  • Montgomery County: 42 new cases; 7,792 total
