Alabama district announces hiring of Reynoldsburg Superintendent Melvin J. Brown

Montgomery Public Schools in Montgomery, Alabama, announced on social media and its website that Reynoldsburg City Schools Superintendent Melvin J. Brown will be its next superintendent.

Montgomery Public Schools announced via a Facebook post April 8 that Brown would replace Ann Roy Moore, who is retiring. According to the district’s website, Brown “is scheduled to begin serving as MPS Superintendent on June 1, 2022.”

“Together, we will strive to ensure equity and access for every student in each of our schools across the district,” Brown said in a statement on the Facebook post. “The reason I entered education is because I am passionate about each student realizing their fullest potential through instruction, experiences and resources."

Brown could not be reached for comment April 11 by ThisWeek. Reynoldsburg is on spring break until April 18.

Debbie Dunlap, Reynoldsburg board of education president, said “we are in the planning stages right now,” when asked about the process to replace Brown either on an interim or full-time basis.

The board plans to discuss Brown’s departure at its April 19 meeting, Dunlap said.

Dunlap said the search for the next superintendent will be a community-oriented process.

“This needs to be a community-focused process because it’s obviously a very important position, and we’re looking for just the right leader,” she said.

Brown, formerly the deputy superintendent of the Cuyahoga Falls City School District in Cuyahoga Falls and regional vice president of Mosaica Education Inc., has served as Reynoldsburg superintendent since 2017.
