Alabama football 2022 awards tracker: All-America selections and other accolades

Alabama football edge defender Will Anderson Jr. has been busy collecting postseason honors.

He swept the Nagurski Trophy, Lombardi Award and Lott Trophy. No player had done that since Notre Dame's Manti Te'o in 2012. Then he was named a unanimous All-American for a second consecutive season.

This season, Anderson tallied 17 tackles for loss and 10 sacks, both of which lead the SEC.

He's among a dozen Alabama players who have received postseason recognition for the 2022 season.

Will Anderson named two-time unanimous All-American with announcement of AFCA teams

Anderson achieved rare history as he became the first Alabama player to be named a unanimous All-American. The American Football Coaches Association All-America teams were released Wednesday, and Anderson was once again a first-team selection, giving him the last and final selection needed to be a unanimous All-American.

Meanwhile, Jordan Battle, Byron Young and Kool-Aid McKinstry all made the AFCA All-America second team.

Five Alabama players on AP All-America teams

Anderson was the only Alabama player to land a spot on the first team. Defensive back Brian Branch earned second-team honors. Jahmyr Gibbs (all-purpose), McKinstry and Battle were on the third team.

Three Alabama players included on Sporting News All-America teams

Anderson was once again the only first-team member, but Battle and McKinstry made the second team.

Anderson wins Lott IMPACT Trophy

Anderson won the award given to the player who "best exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT on and off the field." IMPACT stands for integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity, and the award is given by The Pacific Club's IMPACT Foundation.

DeMeco Ryans is the only other player in the program's history who has won the award. It began 18 years ago.

Anderson wins Bednarik Award

Anderson brought home the award given to the nation's best defensive player in college football, per the Maxwell Football Club.

Minkah Fitzpatrick (2017) and Jonathan Allen (2016) are the two other Alabama players who have won the award before.

Anderson wins Lombardi Award

Anderson beat out Georgia's Brock Bowers and Jalen Carter, as well as USC's Tuli Tuipulotu, for the award given to the top college football offensive or defensive lineman, according to the Rotary Club of Houston.

Allen was the last Alabama player to win the award in 2016.

Will Anderson Jr. wins Bronko Nagurski Trophy again

Anderson won the award for the nation’s most outstanding defensive player, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America and Charlotte Touchdown Club.

Anderson also received this accolade in 2021.

Anderson wins SEC defensive player of the year

He was named the top defensive player in the conference, as voted by the coaches.

Anderson named Walter Camp All-American

He also earned a first-team spot in 2021. This is one of the five All-America teams used to determine consensus All-Americans.

Anderson, McKinstry named to FWAA All-America teams

Anderson landed on the first team again. McKinstry earned a spot on the second team as a punt returner. This is also one of the five teams used to determine consensus All-Americans.

Nine Alabama players on AP All-SEC teams

Anderson was a unanimous selection as the AP SEC defensive player of the year. Also on the first team were guard Emil Ekiyor Jr., McKinstry and defensive end Byron Young.

The second team included Gibbs (all-purpose, running back), Battle, Branch, kicker Will Reichard and quarterback Bryce Young.

Nine Alabama players on coaches' All-SEC teams

Ekiyor, Anderson, Battle, McKinstry and linebacker Henry To'oTo'o landed on the first team.

Gibbs, Reichard, McKinstry (return specialist), left tackle Tyler Steen and guard Javion Cohen earned spots on the second team.

Three Crimson Tide players on All-SEC freshman team

Defensive tackle Jaheim Oatis, offensive lineman Tyler Booker and defensive back Terrion Arnold all earned spots on the All-SEC freshman team.
