Alabama football commit Tony Mitchell 'locked in with 'Bama,' won't visit other schools

Alabama football five-star safety commit Tony Mitchell has visited rival schools this fall after choosing the Crimson Tide this summer. But he is finished seeing Alabama's competitors and is "locked in with 'Bama," he told the Tuscaloosa News.

Mitchell visited Texas A&M in September and Auburn in October on game day visits and planned to take trips to them again, but that's no longer his intention.

Mitchell, the No. 34 recruit and No. 3 safety in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, helped No. 2 Thompson win 49-7 at No. 10 Tuscaloosa County (5-3) Friday.

"I’m chilling," Mitchell said. "I’m locked in with 'Bama. I got my (official visit set) for the Iron Bowl. I don’t (have anything) else going on."

Mitchell doesn't intend to see other schools because we wants to be present for his task at hand as Thompson looks to win a fourth straight 7A state championship.

"No, probably not," Mitchell said. "I’ve always been locked in with Bama, but just being more focused on my season trying to get this last state championship. Don’t need no distractions. Locked into what’s important right now."

Mitchell and Thompson (7-2) have won seven straight after losing the first two games of the season to fellow reigning state champions from Georgia. Buford, and Tennessee, Lipscomb Academy.

Mitchell's night was finished in the second quarter against Tuscaloosa County as Thompson lead 42-0 at halftime.

He is one of five five-star commits in Alabama's top-ranked class, including safety Caleb Downs, cornerback Jahlil Hurley, running back Justice Haynes and running back Richard Young.

"I feel like we have a great class already," Mitchell said. "We still got some more to come."
