Alabama football DL Young makes decision on Senior Bowl
Alabama defensive lineman Byron Young has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl, officials from the annual all-star game announced Tuesday.
The 6-foot-3, 292-poud Young was the Crimson Tide's most consistent defensive lineman this season, making 46 tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He projects primarily as a 5-technique defensive end at the NFL level, with the versatility to move elsewhere on the defensive line.

Young joins offensive guard Emil Ekiyor as Alabama's only two players to accept an invitation to the game so far, although there could be more to come. A dozen Alabama players made the Senior Bowl watch list, and announcements on accepted invites will continue for several more weeks ahead of the Feb. 4 game at Hancock-Whitney Stadium in Mobile.
Young, of Laurel, Mississippi, played his career-best game last month at Ole Miss, amassing 11 tackles with two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. With most of Alabama's top prospects for the 2023 NFL Draft being underclassmen, either Young or safety Jordan Battle figure be Alabama's highest-drafted senior.
The Senior Bowl gathers more than 100 seniors and graduating fourth-year juniors from around the nation for a week of practices and interviews with NFL clubs ahead of its annual all-star game, allowing pro scouts and coaches a close look at some of the top talent in the upcoming draft while giving the players an opportunity to improve their draft status.
