Alabama football expected to hire two new coaches on defense, special teams

Alabama football is expected to name Coleman Hutzler and Travaris Robinson to its coaching staff, per reports.

Hutzler changed his Twitter bio to reflect the change but no formal announcement has been made. He lists "special teams coord / OLB" in his Twitter bio, but his exact role with the Crimson Tide is unclear. Alabama still has outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri and special teams coordinator Drew Svoboda on staff.

Robinson is expected to coach Alabama's cornerbacks.

Hutzler spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach/special team coordinator at Ole Miss, under Lane Kiffin. The Rebels averaged more than 21 yards on kickoff returns and 11.63 yards on punt returns. Ole Miss kickers went 15-20 on field goals and averaged 39.84 yards per punt.

Hutzler was the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at South Carolina from 2016-2019 under Will Muschamp.

Robinson is expected to come to Alabama from Miami, in a move that was first reported by 247sports. Robinson will replace Jay Valai, who left for Oklahoma earlier this month.

Robinson coached defensive backs for the Hurricanes for a unit that intercepted seven passes while allowing 250.5 passing yards a game. Robinson was a first-team All-SEC defensive in 2002. Robinson was the defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at South Carolina from 2016-2020 under Muschamp.
