ARLINGTON, Texas — Alabama football right guard Emil Ekiyor Jr. exited the Cotton Bowl vs. Cincinnati in the first quarter with a shoulder injury.
Ekiyor went to the locker room in the second quarter with the training staff after spending time in the sideline medical tent. He did not play another snap in the game.
"We think that he's got a chance to be able to come back and be able to play in the (championship) game," Nick Saban said. "It's probably too early to know. It depends on how he responds. Our medical staff will do a great job with all the players that were injured in the game. Hopefully we'll be able to get most of them ready to play."
Alabama will be playing the national championship against either Georgia or Michigan on Jan. 10 in Indianapolis, Indiana. That's also Ekiyor's hometown.
JC Latham replaced Ekiyor at right guard during the drive that put Alabama football up 10-3 early in the second quarter.
