Alabama football OL Emil Ekiyor accepts Senior Bowl invitation

Alabama football offensive guard Emil Ekiyor has accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl, game officials announced Monday via social media.

Ekiyor is the first of 12 Alabama players on the game's watch list to accept an invitation. The Senior Bowl will be played Feb. 4 at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile.

SABAN'S 15: The Tuscaloosa News' special book chronicling Nick Saban's first 15 years as coach makes a great holiday gift!

Ekiyor (6-foot-3, 307 pounds) was a fifth-year senior for the Crimson Tide with extensive playing experience. He started three seasons and led the team in knockdown blocks with 31 in his final campaign, which will conclude Dec. 31 in the Sugar Bowl against Kansas State.

With left guard Javion Cohen entering the NCAA's transfer portal and Ekiyor, the Crimson Tide's right guard, off to the Senior Bowl, Alabama will have to replace both its starting guards in 2023.

The Senior Bowl gathers more than 100 seniors and graduating fourth-year juniors from around the nation for a week of practices and interviews with NFL clubs ahead of its annual all-star game, allowing pro scouts and coaches a close look at some of the top talent in the upcoming draft while giving the players an opportunity to improve their draft status.
