Alabama Crimson Tide football score vs. Texas Longhorns: Live updates from Austin

Alabama football looks to score its second victory of the 2022 football season on Saturday when the Crimson Tide faces the Texas Longhorns.

The matchup marks the first meeting between Nick Saban and Steve Sarkisian since Alabama's former offensive coordinator left to become the coach of Texas before the 2021 season. Sarkisian served as the Crimson Tide's play caller during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

"He's a very bright guy, very well organized," Saban said on Monday. "He did an outstanding job when he was here. He's got a good system. He understands defense. He likes to see what you're in if he can, so that he can run a play that's going to be an effective play against that particular look or give his players the best chance to be successful. I think all those things and a combination of those things and good preparation, make you a really, really good play caller."

Now Sarkisian will have the tough test of trying to beat his former boss and the top team in the country.

No. 1 Alabama (1-0) will face No. 22 Texas (1-0) on Saturday in Austin, Texas.

Alabama football score vs. Texas Longhorns: Live updates

Fourth quarter

FINAL: Alabama 20, Texas 19. The final pass from Hudson Card is incomplete. Alabama wins.

10 seconds left: Will Reichard is good from 33 yards out. Alabama 20, Texas 19. What an intense final quarter.

27 seconds left: The Heisman Moment, part two. Bryce Young avoids a blitzer and scrambles inside the Texas 20.

35 seconds left: Cameron Latu first down catch. Alabama with a fresh set of downs at the Longhorns' 37.

1:17 left: Jahmyr Gibbs against a linebacker is not fair. He runs into Texas territory.

1:29 left: Will Anderson gets a sack. Bert Auburn's 49-yard field goal is...good. Texas takes a 19-17 lead with 89 seconds left. Bryce Young will have one timeout and needs just a field goal.

2:19 left: Casey Cain is wide open over the middle for 30 yards, and Texas is in business. The 20-yard field goal blocked at the end of the first half looms large. Longhorns inside the Alabama 30.

3:55 left: Alabama stopped on 4th and short. Roydell Williams was stoned at the line of scrimmage. Texas has the ball, 1st and 10 from its own 25. Win or lose, the Alabama offensive line will be the focus going forward. It has not been a good day up front.

7:28 left: A much-needed three-and-out recorded by the Alabama defense. Curious that Texas threw three passes on that sequence.

8:29 left: Bryce Young, wow. On the run, sprinting to his left, Young sidearms a pass to Jahmyr Gibbs in the middle of the end zone for a touchdown. What a play. Extra point is good. Alabama 17, Texas 16.

8:55 left: JaCorey Brooks with a big catch and run for the first down. Alabama offense inside the Texas 25-yard line. Brooks again with a catch, and it's now first-and-goal.

9:35 left: Young hit on third down, and the pass is incomplete. A big decision to come.

11:00 left: Bryce Young on the move, and Alabama back into Texas territory. Young makes another first down pass on the run.

12:55 left: Texas adds another field goal and leads 16-10. That drive aided by two big Alabama defensive penalties. Bryce Young needs a fourth quarter a la Auburn last season.

Third quarter

2:56 left: Another Alabama penalty kills an offensive drive. Traeshon Holden is called for an illegal block on a Bryce Young scramble for a first down. Another punt.

6:27 left: Texas leads after a Bert Auburn 33-yard field goal. Alabama is in trouble. The offense is sleepwalking and needs a wake-up call.

9:50 left: Alabama is the benefit of an egregious call. Bryce Young is nearly sacked in the end zone, but there's a roughing the passer with targeting penalty. The targeting should get wiped away, but the roughing the passer call is not reviewable. Incredibly bad call. It's under review.

The review overturns the targeting, and the penalty is adjusted to reflect that there was no roughing the passer. Alabama will punt.

11:48 left: Texas and Alabama both go three-and-out. The Tide's offense has been stuck in neutral for the last four drives.

Second quarter

HALFTIME: Alabama 10, Texas 10. Bert Auburn's 20-yard field goal is blocked by Will Anderson.

8 seconds left: Back-to-back pass interference penalties called on Alabama.

25 seconds left: Bijan Robinson down the sidelines, and Hudson Card finds him for a long gain. Texas' offense now inside the Alabama 30.

32 seconds left: Bijan Robinson out past the Texas 40-yard line. Steve Sarkisian looked OK with going into halftime at 10-10. Now, Texas can push for a late score.

1:07 left: Will Anderson offside for the third time in the first half.

2:08 left: A third down drop by Isaiah Bond, and a third consecutive Alabama punt.

4:42 left: Kobe Prentice and Bryce Young not on the same page. Alabama will punt again.

5:58 left: Alabama's defense forces a punt. Bryce Young and the offense with good starting field position, at their own 45 yard-line.

10:34 left: Bryce Young is sacked on third down. Alabama will punt. Jahmyr Gibbs runs past the blitzing Texas linebacker to block elsewhere, and you have to wonder if that was a missed assignment.

At least four pre-snap penalties for the Tide in the first half.

12:18 left: Bryce Young has been really good on third down. Cameron Latu catch to convert on 3rd and 12.

14:55 left: Bijan Robinson into the end zone from a yard out. Tie game. Alabama 10, Texas 10.

First quarter

31 seconds left: Quinn Ewers is injured after taking a hard hit from Dallas Turner. He finally is helped off the turf by Texas medical staff, and Hudson Card is entering the game.

55 seconds left: Quinn Ewers to Xavier Worthy for a long gain, and Texas is at first-and-goal again. Alabama's defense is getting picked apart.

2:34 left: Jase McClellan. 81 yards. Touchdown Alabama. Huge hole over the right side. Alabama 10, Texas 3.

2:56 left: Texas' third-and-goal fade falls incomplete. There should never be pass interference on fades, and there should never be fades. Texas' Bert Auburn hits from 26 yards out. Alabama 3, Texas 3.

4:23 left: Texas now inside the Alabama 25. The first-drive script from Steve Sarkisian has Alabama's defense off kilter for now.

5:34 left: Alabama offside on a third down TFL gives Texas a first down. Will Anderson's second offside of the first quarter.

6:48 left: Quinn Ewers to Xavier Worthy puts Texas into Alabama territory. Already three Alabama penalties.

9:00 left: Bryce Young a little too patient in the pocket, is sacked on third down. Texas rushed only three. Will Reichard is good from 52 yards, which ties a career-long. Alabama 3, Texas 0.

11:15 left: Calm and cool in the pocket, Bryce Young converts to Kobe Prentice on third down. Alabama now inside the Texas 30.

12:30 left : A lot of Jahmyr Gibbs to start the game for Alabama.

14:17 left: Alabama penalties on the kickoff and before second down set the Tide back on drive No. 1.

15:00 left: Alabama to receive. Let's do this.
