Alabama football's Bryce Young wins ESPY award for best men's sports college athlete

Alabama football quarterback Bryce Young keeps adding to his trophy shelf.

His latest award is an ESPY for best college athlete, men's sports. Former Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith won the award from ESPN in the summer of 2021.

The two ESPY winners each won the Heisman Trophy as well in back-to-back seasons.

Meanwhile, the Iron Bowl did not win the ESPY for best game. The AFC divisional round game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs won instead.

Young has won no shortage of awards after his first season starting at quarterback for Alabama. He had a season in which he led the Crimson Tide to the national championship game as Young threw for program records in passing yards (4,872 yards) and passing touchdowns (47).

The Sporting News and Associated Press also named him their player of the year for the 2021 season. The other awards he won include the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien and Manning awards. Of course, he was also a consensus first-team All-American.

Earlier this summer, the SEC named him its male athlete of the year. And that's not even all of the accolades he received. Many outlets named him to their respective first teams.

Young returns for his junior season in 2022, after which he can leave for the NFL Draft if he so chooses. He is expected to be one of the top picks in the draft, already a year out.

Much of the talent that surrounded Young in 2021 has gone to the NFL, including left tackle Evan Neal, receivers Jameson Williams and John Metchie III and running back Brian Robinson Jr. How the talent performs around Young will likely determine whether the Crimson Tide can win a College Football Playoff Championship this season.
