Gov. Kay Ivey lit the state Christmas tree on the steps of the capitol building during a music-filled ceremony on Friday evening. The theme of the event was “Every Light a Prayer for Peace.”

Ivey spoke briefly at the tree lighting ceremony as did U.S Space Force Commander of Space Delta 13, Col. Niki Lindhorst. About two hundred people attended the event, including state and community leaders.

Christmas music was performed throughout the ceremony by the 151st Army National Guard Band. Santa Claus made an appearance at the event as well.
