Alabama high school football: Thompson wins fourth straight 7A state championship, routs Auburn

AUBURN — The AHSAA football Super 7 state championships kicked off with a record-setting performance.

Thompson defeated Auburn 49-24 for its fourth straight state championship as eighth-grade quarterback Trent Seaborn set the AHSAA Class 7A record with five touchdowns passes Wednesday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Sophomore receiver Korbyn Williams had six receptions for 142 yards and four touchdowns in the wire-to-wire win.

Thompson (11-3) played a near-perfect first quarter while Auburn was out of sorts. The Warriors led 21-0 after the opening period because it held Auburn (12-2) to four yards of offense on three three-and-outs.

Thompson scored touchdowns on each ensuing drive, Seaborn tossing two touchdowns and AJ Green scoring on a rush.

Seaborn threw an interception to Caleb Pitts in the second quarter. On a crucial fourth and one and down 21 points early, Auburn got its first score on a 17-yard touchdown rushing when DV Williams cut back against a packed box.

Auburn didn't do much after that until the contest was decided.

On the first play in the third quarter, Green scored on a 80-yard rush. Thompson junior safety Kaleb Harris intercepted Auburn's Clyde Pittman on the next drive.

Seaborn and Williams connected for two more touchdowns in the quarter.

The eighth-grade quarterback completed 12-of-14 pass attempts for 207 yards with one interception. Green rushed 21 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Thompson's five-star Alabama defensive back commit Tony Mitchell had one sack and a pass deflection.
