Alabama high school football playoffs scores, live updates: AHSAA Round 2 in Montgomery

The Alabama high school football postseason is under way. The second round of the AHSAA postseason will take place Friday, as will the AISA semifinals.

Eight Montgomery-area teams remain in the hunt for state championships. Undefeated Montgomery Catholic, the No. 1 team in Class 4A, took care of business against Bayside Academy in the first round. Lowndes Academy moved one step closer to a return to the AISA Class A championship game by routing Snook Christian. Defending 5A state champ Pike Road won its first 6A playoff game over Spanish Fort.

Alabama Christian, Evangel Christian, St. James, Tallassee and Trinity Presbyterian also will look to extend their seasons this Friday.

However, half of the River Region teams that qualified for the postseason were defeated in the first round. Class 6A Region 2 champion G.W. Carver was upset by St. Paul's, its first loss to a team from Alabama. Elmore County fell to Demopolis, bringing a close to an impressive seven-win turnaround from 2021. Montgomery Academy, which made the Class 3A title game in 2021, lost to T.R. Miller.

The AHSAA playoffs culminate in the Super 7 at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The AISA playoff finals will take place at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on Nov. 17.
