Alabama softball vs. Chattanooga: Live score updates from NCAA Tournament regional

Alabama softball kicks off its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament regional at Rhoads Stadium against Chattanooga on Friday (3 p.m. CT, SEC Network).

Tuscaloosa has been a mainstay in the regional round with the Crimson Tide holding a 43-game win streak, good for the longest in the country.

The three-day tournament will be a double-elimination format with Alabama (41-11), Stanford, Murray State and Chattanooga with the winner advancing to the Super Regional round against the winner of No. 11 seeded Knoxville regional.

Alabama has not played Chattanooga (29-25) since the 2011 regional round, but coach Patrick Murphy noted they are a talented with a young, upcoming coaching staff. He also expressed his eagerness to get started with the postseason tournament.

"Hopefully, we can just score early period," said Murphy. "We need a great start from our pitcher, good defense and a key hit."

The Lady Mocs carry a six-game winning streak and won their Southern Conference Tournament championship in program history.

If Alabama wins, it will play the winner of Stanford and Murray State at 2 p.m. Saturday. If the Crimson Tide lose, they'll play the loser of that game 4:30 p.m.
