Outgoing Alabama football transfer tight end Jahleel Billingsley is joining a former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator.

Billingsley's father confirmed on Twitter that Billingsley committed to Texas and coach Steve Sarkisian, Alabama's offensive coordinator from 2019-2020, on Sunday.

Billingsley posted photos from a visit to Texas this weekend.

The junior tight end caught 17 catches for 256 yards and three touchdowns in 2021, which was not a step up from his 2020 campaign. He had 18 catches, 287 yards and three touchdowns in 2020.

Billingsley was the target of preseason criticism from coach Nick Saban.

"He knows what he is supposed to do in practice," Saban said about Billingsley in August 2021. "He knows what he is supposed to do. This is not a democracy. Everybody doesn't get to do what they want to do. Everybody doesn't get to do what they feel like doing. You've got to buy in and do what you're supposed to do to be a part of the team and do the things you need to do in practice every day."

Billingsley, from Chicago, was a four-star prospect in the Class of 2019.

Alabama is scheduled to visit Texas for a non-conference game on Sept. 10.
