Alabama troopers: Tuscaloosa woman, 3-year-old child killed in Interstate 59 crash

A 33-year-old Tuscaloosa woman and a 3-year-old child died Monday afternoon in a crash that involved four vehicles on Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa County.

State troopers said Laquavia R. Thomas and the child were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 4:11 p.m. on the interstate, about 3 miles south of the city of Tuscaloosa. The child was a passenger in Thomas' Kia Forte, according to troopers.

Troopers said the multiple-vehicle crash began when Thomas' car was struck by a 2019 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Robert A. Daniels, 41, of Brandon, Mississippi. Thomas' Kia then hit a 2017 Honda CRV driven by Rebekah C. Womble, 25, of Ralph and the Honda hit a 2016 Cadillac Escalade driven by Moranda E. Nalls, 32, of Aliceville.

No further information about the crash was available. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are handling the investigation.
