An Alabama woman was arrested and accused of burglarizing homes when their occupants were attending funerals, identifying her potential victims by reading obituaries.

The Priceville Police Department arrested Jennifer Lynn Azizian, 43, on four counts of burglary in the third degree, according to Huntsville, Ala., news station WHNT. Burglary third degree in Alabama is a class C felony, and if she is found guilty, Azizian could face a punishment of imprisonment from one year and one day to 10 years.

A search of the woman’s cellphone revealed that she had been researching the local obituaries for some time, according to police. Her alleged victims would be attending their family’s funerals while she entered their homes.

Officials obtained video evidence of the suspect and her vehicle but were initially unable to identify her. A Morgan County patrol sergeant stopped her after a possible burglary in Hartselle, and police were able to obtain a warrant for her phone, WHNT reported.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook that a victim reported on Jan. 30 that their home had been broken into and prescription medication stolen while they were attending a funeral. On Feb. 20, Azizian was taken into custody. The post goes on to say, “MCSO Investigators received a statement from Azizian stating that she would Google area obituaries, then Google the addresses of family members. She would then go to the address during the time of the funeral and forcibly enter the home to locate prescription medication.”

Circuit Judge Jennifer Howell set Azizian’s bond at $15,000 per charge. Officials add that further charges are likely to be filed by other agencies from areas surrounding Morgan County. It was not known if Azizian had an attorney to speak on her behalf, as court records were not yet available.
