Alabama women's basketball JaMya Mingo-Young to enter transfer portal after medical DQ

Following a medical disqualification earlier this season, Alabama women's basketball guard JaMya Mingo-Young has announced that she is entering the transfer portal.

Mingo-Young had not played since a Dec. 29, 2022, win over Georgia, missing six games for personal reasons before being declared medically disqualified on Jan. 26. She enters the portal with one season of eligibility left.

She was medically disqualified due to "numerous lower extremity orthopedic injuries and subsequent rehabilitations" according to the release. Mingo-Young averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in the first 14 games of the season. She will be entering the portal for the second time after transferring from Mississippi State in 2021. She started all 34 games in the 2021-22 season, averaging 11.6 points.

At the time Mingo-Young said that she appreciated UA for coming to the decision and would continue to support the team as she healed.

"I am grateful for the University of Alabama for coming to this decision," Mingo-Young said in the statement. "I am thankful for the support of the coaching staff, University physicians and athletic training staff. I look forward to supporting my teammates for the remainder of the season, while spending the adequate time I need to get fully healthy."
